Canadian CJA member chosen to monitor Cameroon presidential elections in October

September 27, 2011

Canadian reporter Gabrielle Giroday will be representing the CJA as part of a 10-person Commonwealth Secretariat team observing Cameroon’s presidential election on Oct. 9, 2011.

She will be in Yaounde from Oct. 3 to 15.

Giroday has been a reporter with the Winnipeg Free Press since 2005 and is a member of the Manitoba chapter of the Canadian CJA branch.

Her previous experience prior to joining the Free Press, one of Canada’s  oldest and most historic newspapers, included interning at The Globe and Mail and writing freelance stories for various  publications, including the National Post.

She has an adventurous spirit, having hitchhiked in the Cuban countryside while studying in Havana; hanging off the back of a jeep climbing the Kanchenjunga mountain in Nepal, and wrote about the first-time elections in the Democratic Republic of Congo in the summer of 2006.
